Notable movie quotes (This is Spinal Tap)
I know this is suppose to be a serious sports blog, but I could not resist this. It was funny in 1982, and it is still funny now.
Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.
Dolphins v. Chiefs final
Even though is cold in KC, the Dolphins are Florida hot, as they roll over the Chiefs. The first half was about as ugly as it could get. However, when the 4th qtr rolled around, the Dolphins finally got on track and put the game away. I question the call of the Chiefs late in the 4th. There was ~3:40 left on the clock, and they had all three time outs left, with the ball on their own 26. It was 4th and 1, with the Dolphins up by 7. I think I would have punted it, and looked for the defense to make a stand. The problem with going for it at this point, is that if you miss, you have basically lost the game. My thought is that if you are 4th and short, you would really like to go to a power running game to get the yard. As it turns out, the Chiefs go for it via a pass, and end up with a sack. Dolphins get the ball, and that was the game. This was a big game for several reasons. Firstly, the Dolphins are one game away from winning the division. Secondly, it is another conference win for the team, and that puts them slightly up on NE. Thirdly, it puts more pressure on the Jets. 11-5 is right around the corner, and this very achievable. If they can do it, this would be one of the bigger turn arounds EVER.
Ravens v. Cowboys final
This was one of the few times that I was actually rooting for the Cowboys. If the Ravens lose, then there payoff hopes get significantly darker, and opens up the possibility that another team from the AFC east gets in. As it turns out, Dallas defense collapsed in the 4th, giving up 2 big runs, and that sealed the game. This was also the final game played at Texas Stadium. Next year, the Cowboys will play in the billion dollar Jerry Jones stadium that will be amazing. Consider that this was the last home game in the old stadium, the loss was a bit disappointing. The Ravens are going to be tough to beat in January.
